The Sky Garden: A Stunning Oasis in the Heart of London’s Skyline

Introduction

The Sky Garden in London, also known as the ‘Walkie Talkie’ building, is one of the most celebrated landmarks of the city. Since its opening in 2015, it has been a popular attraction for tourists and locals alike. Located at 20 Fenchurch Street in the City of London, this multi-story building not only offers a spectacular view of the city but also houses a beautiful garden with a unique array of plant life.

The Architecture

The architecture of the Sky Garden is a masterpiece. The building is shaped like a lens, rising to a height of 155 meters. The Sky Garden is designed in a way that it provides a panoramic view of the river Thames and London’s skyline. From the garden, one can see the famous landmarks of London, including the Tower Bridge, the Shard, St Paul’s Cathedral, and the Tower of London. The building has three stories, the first two being open to the public while the third is reserved for private events and diners.

The Garden

The Sky Garden boasts a beautiful garden with a unique variety of flora. The garden is divided into three areas: the Sky Pod Bar, the Fenchurch Terrace, and the main garden area which acts as the focal point. In the main garden area, one encounters a breathtaking scene of foliage with various plants and trees imported from all over the world. One can witness rare species of plant life carefully picked to thrive in the Sky Garden’s unique climate control system.

There are over 50 types of trees and shrubs in the garden, including fig trees and Japanese maples. The Sky Garden is also home to a range of exotic plants such as the Australian tree fern, the Chilean Wine palm, and the Jade vine from the Philippines. The garden’s fountain, located towards the back of the garden area, adds a touch of serenity to the ambiance.

The Sky Pod Bar

The Sky Pod Bar is an open-air bar located at the top of the Sky Garden, offering stunning views of the city. The bar offers a range of cocktails, wines, and beers as well as a light menu. One can also reserve the bar for private events and parties.

The Fenchurch Terrace

The Fenchurch Terrace is a small outdoor area located at the southern end of the Sky Garden. It offers stunning views of the Thames and Tower Bridge. It is an ideal spot for couples and small groups to enjoy a romantic evening or a casual catch-up.

The Visitor Experience

The Sky Garden is open to the public from Monday to Friday, from 10:00am to 6:00pm. Admission is free, but visitors need to book tickets in advance. One can enjoy the garden’s beauty, take photographs or dine at one of the restaurants located within the building. The Sky Garden also offers a range of events from yoga classes, wine tasting, and live music to enhance the visitor experience.
